Shure releases the SM7dB microphone

Shure SM7 1 HI

Fifty years after its 1973 debut, Shure has launched a new member of its iconic SM7 family. Designed for podcasters, streamers, and vocalists, the new SM7dB XLR dynamic vocal microphone delivers the extraordinary sound of the SM7B with the addition of a built-in preamplifier designed by Shure for simplified audio flow, eliminating the need for inline amplification.

More gain and easier setup: the same iconic sound

The SM7dB offers creators and audio engineers the same rugged construction and legendary audio quality of the SM7B, with the added benefit of a Shure-designed built-in phantom-powered preamplifier. This integrated preamplifier provides an additional +18 or +28 decibels (dB) of clean gain, eliminating the need for a separate preamplifier and freeing users from the hiss and noise often generated by many audio interfaces when their preamps are turned up to provide sufficient gain for the SM7B.

Shure SM7 2 HIIdeal for users with all levels of experience, the additional gain of the SM7dB elevates the microphone's sensitivity to a level optimized for typical audio interfaces. This ensures users have sufficient gain for their audio to be heard with maximum clarity in recording, broadcasting, or streaming, regardless of their audio interface. For situations that don't require additional gain, users can simply bypass the integrated preamplifier and return to the original operation of the SM7B.

With the smooth and controlled sound of the SM7B, the wide-ranging frequency response of the SM7dB is perfect for capturing vocals, voices, podcasting, as well as high sound sources like drums, loud vocals, and amplifiers. With the same EQ controls as the SM7B, the low-frequency roll-off and presence boost of the SM7dB can be applied to better suit the sound source and recording environment.

The SM7dB is a dynamic microphone with a cardioid polar pattern and is designed to reject off-axis audio, ensuring your voice is heard clearly without distractions. The microphone's pneumatic suspension isolation technology and pop filter eliminate unwanted noise and breath sounds, while advanced electromagnetic shielding cancels out computer monitor hum and other audio equipment noise.

For the past 50 years, the SM7 microphone family has been adopted by the world's best recording and broadcasting studios, as well as by presenters, artists, and content creators. The SM7dB eliminates the need to purchase an additional preamplifier, making it even easier to obtain the extraordinary Shure sound that has defined the past five decades of audio, comments Eduardo Valdes, Associate Vice President of Global Marketing and Product Management at Shure.

Now, users can enjoy superior audio with Shure's SM7 microphone line without the need for an additional preamplifier, streamlining the setup required to achieve professional-quality recordings at a more affordable price.
