These new, compact powered studio monitors offer powerful output, impressive detail, a wide sound image and greater accuracy for critical listening applications. Here comes the new 7 Series of powered studio monitors, building on the legacy of the acclaimed JBL 7 Series.
With patented transducer and waveguide technologies originally developed for the iconic M2 monitors, the new LSR705P with a 5-inch woofer and LSR708P with an 8-inch woofer deliver high output, impressive detail and best-in-class accuracy for post-production, broadcast and recording studios.
"The JBL 7 Series was developed from the ground up as our next-generation solution for music, post-production and broadcast production," says Peter Chaikin, Director, Recording Solutions at HARMAN International. "Every aspect is designed to meet challenges and deliver a new level of performance for engineers, producers and content creators. Now we are proud to introduce powered versions of these well-known monitors. Overcoming the limitations of traditional studio monitors, the 7 Series gives today's audio professionals and new studios the tools to achieve the best results while enjoying the creative process."
The 7 Series powered studio reference monitors are designed to solve common problems in workspaces where recording, post-production and broadcast take place. Patented and patent-pending acoustic technologies deliver significantly better output, dynamic range and detail, helping professionals work from greater distances and overcome less-than-ideal placements. JBL's waveguide technology provides a neutral response and exceptional room-to-room consistency, while built-in room EQ solves the low-frequency problems that have plagued engineers for years.
JBL 7 Series powered monitors use JBL transducers to deliver greater dynamic range and superior frequency response. Both models feature the 2409H compression driver, which incorporates an innovative low-mass annular diaphragm to deliver extraordinary output and very low distortion, with response extending beyond 36KHz.
The 5-inch 725G low-frequency transducer used in the 705P offers 14mm of peak-to-peak excursion with greater linearity, delivering exceptional low-frequency output down to 39Hz. The 8-inch 728G low-frequency transducer in the 708P optimizes JBL's Differential Drive technology to reduce power compression and deliver better sustained output and extended, linear low-frequency performance reaching down to 35KHz. These JBL transducers allow the 7 Series to deliver two to three times more output than existing studio monitors.
Both the 705P and 708P feature patent-pending Image Control Waveguide technology, which provides an acoustically seamless transition between the woofer and the high-frequency transducer and a wide sweet spot with improved sonic detail. With a smooth, neutral frequency response both on and off axis, the 7 Series powered monitors offer greater accuracy and perform the same regardless of the room they are in and regardless of where they are placed in it.
Inside each monitor is an integrated dual amplification system optimized for the high power of the transducers. A 120W amplifier powers the 2409H high-frequency transducer, while a 250W amplifier is dedicated to the 725G and 728G low-frequency transducers, delivering unprecedented output and detail, even at greater listening distances.
The built-in, DSP-based room EQ compensates for acoustic problems in any room, providing more accurate sound reproduction. Twelve bands of room EQ and eight bands of user EQ let professionals tailor the speakers' response to reduce the adverse effects of poor room acoustics and optimize accuracy, whether the monitors are in the middle of the room or placed next to its walls.

Both models feature analog and AES/EBU digital inputs, allowing connection to a wide range of audio production hardware, including DAW workstations, mixing consoles and digital playback hardware with sample rates up to 192KHz. Internal sample rate converters can be enabled so the monitors can receive digital signals at unusual sample rates.
The 7 Series powered monitors were developed with modern control rooms in mind. A compact 2-way design minimizes interference with video signals and sight lines, while delivering output comparable to that of larger speakers. The reinforced enclosure includes bottom and rear mounting points, allowing wall and ceiling installation in vertical or horizontal orientations.
These monitors are designed to meet the needs of demanding producers, recording engineers, mastering studios and remote production facilities. The new powered monitors complement the existing 705i and 708i installation models, which serve as the core of a complete, scalable system based on external multichannel amplifiers and central system control. Facilities working in surround and immersive formats will benefit from the compact size, powerful output and easy mounting of the 705i and 708i. The centrally located electronics eliminate the need for power outlets for each speaker and allow powerful, elegant control of any number of channels in rooms of any size. The complete system includes room EQ, mixing capabilities and hardware and software control of a wide range of monitoring functions.
Multiple 7 Series monitors can be combined with JBL's new Intonato 24 studio monitor management system to create a complete monitoring system for immersive audio production. The Intonato 24 gives audio professionals the ability to quickly optimize their environment for superior accuracy and easily scale their system to meet future needs.
