Specialist performance tool developer Dialog Audio recently introduced the Modulation Processor 3244. It enables sync and modulation on analog, digital and software-based synths.
It is a VST3 (32-/64-bit), AU (32-/64-bit) and VST (32-/64-bit) plug-in, compatible with Mac OS X (10.7 or later) and Windows (XP or later), designed specifically to sync and modulate synthesizer parameters from a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) application.
The Modulation Processor 3244 plug-in provides three LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators), two slope generators and four envelope generators. All of them sync to the needs of today's music and the requirements of modern production. The Modulation Processor 3244 alone stands out quite a bit from any other existing plug-in, having started out as a novel way to meet a very specific need. "The need to get a filter to modulate in sync via SysEx from a host application was the basic idea behind its development," reveals the company's founder, Julian McDole.
What exactly the Modulation Processor 3244 does is enable sync/modulation on hardware-based analog and digital synths, as well as software-based ones.
Tellingly, the modular structure of the Modulation Processor 3244 lets adventurous users adapt various modulation signals to suit their hardware setup, so classic synthesizers and modular analog systems can be seamlessly integrated into today's production environments alongside more modern instruments through various connections. Synthesizers equipped with MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) inputs can be modulated via MIDI CC (Continuous Controller) or SysEx (System Exclusive) messages. In addition, it modulates any analog synthesizer capable of receiving CV (Control Voltage) signals simply by patching the spare outputs of an audio interface - if suitable - to the synthesizer's CV inputs and generating high-resolution, audio-rate CV modulation. Alternatively, a MIDI-to-CV converter can be used.
Ultimately, owners of software setups need not feel left out of the Modulation Processor 3244, since it can handle them too. All in all, a product that works with practically 100% of hardware and software devices, with a simple, easy-to-understand interface and... Modulation, not frustration!
