Steinberg is partnering once again with Audiokinetic to unveil at GDC in San Francisco a preview of the next version of Nuendo, its workstation for post-production and game audio. It includes improved connectivity with Audiokinetic's Wwise middleware, with composers in mind, as well as a whole array of post-production tools.
Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH has announced the imminent release of Nuendo 8. It was presented at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2017, Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, USA.
Steinberg first introduced Nuendo at the turn of the millennium to provide sound industry professionals with native technologies offering unrivaled audio and surround sound capabilities. Today, Nuendo is the backbone of sound production facilities around the world, offering workflows and features specifically for post-production and game audio professionals.

In its previous version, Nuendo introduced Game Audio Connect to the delight of many game audio producers, providing a new set of tools for integrating Nuendo directly with Audiokinetic's Wwise audio middleware solution, exporting mixes to Wwise, and Perforce version control projects. With Nuendo 8, Steinberg takes a step forward and improves this toolset: Game Audio Connect 2 provides an interactive workflow, taking entire musical compositions from Nuendo and transferring them to Wwise, including audio and MIDI tracks along with cycle and entry markers. In addition, thanks to the close connection between both applications, Nuendo can now be used as a MIDI editor for Wwise.
To speed up workflows, Nuendo 8 includes Direct Offline Processing with Live!Rendering, allowing users to apply commonly used processes in an offline plug-in chain and run offline processes in real time. Another new feature is the Auto ReNamer, which automatically assigns new names to all events, something quite common in game audio workflows.

Nuendo 8 places an emphasis on sound design, providing users with the tools they need to create and manipulate sound. The Sound Randomizer plug-in instantly creates different variations of a sound, adjusting its pitch, timbre, impact and timing. The new Sampler Track is a tool that lets users drag and drop audio from the MediaBay onto the track and play and manipulate the sample. It also includes the Retrologue 2 virtual analog synthesizer, HALion Sonic SE 3, more than 80 effects processors, including the new Frequency parametric EQ, and a selection from Pro Sound Effects' Hybrid Library 2017, as well as the new, recently developed video engine that replaces the old QuickTime-based engine.

Timo Wildenhain, Senior Marketing Director at Steinberg, comments: "We are very happy to be able to present Nuendo 8 at GDC next week and to have had the opportunity to collaborate again with our esteemed friends at Audiokinetic. Even though we plan to release this new version of Nuendo in June, it was important for us to unveil it at GDC. There will also be other events where we will present Nuendo 8 as a prelude to the launch."
