Celestion introduces the Mesa/Boogie Impulse Response (IR) Collection, the latest addition to the acclaimed Backline Heroes series. This new collection captures the unique tones of Mesa/Boogie’s legendary and extensive range of cabinets and delivers them in a digital impulse response format, available for audition and download.
The Mesa/Boogie IR Collection features some of the most iconic guitar tones in the history of rock and metal, commonly favoured by players seeking a powerful sound with a solid low end. However, it is a versatile collection, spanning the soulful, character-rich vintage magic of the Lone Star cabinets, the low-end fullness and thump of the classic Rectifier cabinets, and the crushing impact of the Widebody designs.
Celestion’s sound engineers have faithfully captured the distinctive tones of 14 different Mesa/Boogie cabinet types, each loaded with carefully selected Celestion speakers—43 in total, including both factory-standard configurations and common modifications—to complement each cabinet and ensure maximum tonal variety.
The complete collection offers 108 different speaker and cabinet combinations, allowing users to find their ideal tonal character.
The impulse responses are available individually, as part of the complete Everything Pack, or in four carefully curated multi-IR collections:
- - Fat Pack: captures the Mesa/Boogie Widebody™ and Thiele 1x12 cabinets, created to deliver fat tones and an oversized low-end punch.
- - 4x12 Pack: features three legendary Rectifier® 4x12 cabinets, providing essential metal tones with thunderous low-end punch and articulate high-end.
- - Recto Pack: includes the Recto 2x12 cabinets and 2x12 extension cabinets, designed for use with Rectifier and Mini Rectifier® heads. It delivers high-gain aggression and full-bodied Mesa/Boogie tone.
- - Lone Star® Pack: features Lone Star 1x12 cabinets and 2x12 extensions, emphasizing punch and projection combined with vintage warmth, making it ideal for country and americana styles.
Celestion captured these cabinets using the same meticulous recording techniques applied to its core range of IRs. Each impulse response was precisely recorded using studio-standard microphones, including the Royer R-121 ribbon, Shure SM57 and Sennheiser MD421. This detailed process delivers 18 distinct tones for each cabinet and speaker combination, including six microphone positions and mic-mix options. Open-back cabinets were additionally captured with an extra rear microphone position.
Paired with a DAW and IR loader plug-in, modelling amplifier hardware or a load box, the Celestion Mesa/Boogie Impulse Response (IR) Collection delivers authentic tone with a lively and dynamic response, all without introducing latency.
These advantages create a playing experience as credible as that of any physical speaker, but with predictable and reliable real-world performance for today’s most demanding recording and live applications.
