Renowned engineers and producers will take part in the US Mic to Monitor seminar tour. Prizes worth up to $6,000 and a series of events for students, hobbyists and recording professionals that answer questions of interest to the industry.
Bob Katz, the world-renowned audio engineer, will deliver the keynote address at Prism Sound's Mic To Monitor 2017 event in the United States. This Mic To Monitor event will take place on March 28, 2017, at Ball State University, Indiana, and will feature three separate components:
1. A morning session focused on students
2. An afternoon session open to the general public
3. A keynote address by Katz titled "Food for Thought: Truths Explained and Myths Exposed"
Katz is the current president and mastering engineer at Digital Domain in Florida, and his credits span artists as diverse as Paquito D'Rivera, Sinéad O'Connor, McCoy Tyner, Livingston Taylor, Olga Tañón and Lindsey Webster, whose jazz album reached number three on the Billboard charts.
Co-chair of the AES Streaming Loudness subcommittee, Katz is a technical innovator who built the world's first working model of an oversampling ADC and patented an ambience recovery algorithm, which is embodied in his K-Stereo plug-in and the Weiss DNA-1 hardware processor.
"We're really delighted to have Bob on board for this Mic To Monitor event", says Graham Boswell, Sales Director at Prism Sound. "He is highly respected within the professional recording industry and we're thrilled that he is willing to share his knowledge and experience with a new generation of audio engineers."
Prism Sound's Mic to Monitor seminars aim to dispel the many myths surrounding the recording process, answering such important questions as what makes great gear great, what it takes to become a successful and discerning audio engineer, the different aspects of their productions and how do you achieve a hit sound?
The 2017 US tour is sponsored by manufacturers SADiE, GIK Acoustics, Audio-Technica and Unity Audio, all presenting on recording techniques and audio hardware design and focusing, among other topics, on how to get the best out of your studio.
To add some surprises to the event, all attendees at Mic To Monitor in the United States during March will automatically be entered into a prize drawing, with prizes totaling more than $6,000 donated by the participating manufacturers.

In addition to the three events at Ball State University, Prism Sound will also hold Mic To Monitor at:
Webster University in Missouri on March 25, where the guest speaker will be producer Steve Nye
SAE Chicago on March 29, with audio engineer Danny Leake
University of Michigan on March 30, with producer Collin Dupuis
Tri-C in Cleveland on March 31, with talks by audio engineer Paul Blakemore.
* With the exception of the Webster University event, which is part of the AES Regional Student Audio Summit, all Mic To Monitor events are free.
