Among the new AVID Pro Tools developments we find plenty of resources that will be available in 2015. Some are available right now, others are on the way (imminent). We take a look at some of the most notable "pieces," such as the free version, Pro Tools First, and the new Pro Tools 12 experiences, among which we highlight "Avid Cloud Collaboration", for working with artists and collaborators from all over the world in a shared virtual studio, via the cloud.
Avid clearly distinguishes between the different segments and needs: the beginning musician, the pro musician/producer, and the professional production sector that needs maximum performance (simultaneous tracks, processing power, etc.). Here at ISP Música, we're preparing a special feature taking an in-depth look at the new Pro Tools 12 features and its latest possibilities, in audio, interface and "Internet" capabilities, the new control surfaces such as the Pro Tools S3 Control, developments planned for the HD versions, and the new Pro Tools First initiative, which is free (yes, you read that right, free). The free version (coming very soon) has certain limitations on simultaneous audio tracks, its 3 projects that you can work on in the Avid cloud (from any Mac, PC, etc.), and so on. We'll tell you more soon.
As for Pro Tools 12, it arrives with new subscription options, cloud collaboration with other artists, the Avid Marketplace and new plugin bundles. As for licensing options, we can choose Pro Tools subscription plans starting at roughly €30 a month, although we'll also be able to buy it outright. Something similar to the strategies of Adobe, Microsoft and the like. Subscriptions, for their part, include future updates and improvements at no extra cost.
Avid Cloud Collaboration is one of the most striking pieces of the new features. A set of tools that let you compose, record, edit and mix sessions in the cloud with other Pro Tools users. "A magnificent way to work remotely, in the same 'virtual' studio." You just have to invite other artists to collaborate using the built-in chat, or find new collaborators in the Avid Marketplace Artist Community.
If your guest doesn't have Pro Tools, they can always download the new Pro Tools First at the very least. You can post sessions to your own cloud storage and invite others to collaborate on them, working on the same session at the same time or creating and sharing offline updates directly from Pro Tools. We can share MIDI and audio tracks, edits, mix changes and automation, among other things. And we can review every contribution from each user and changes between versions. We're also offered collaboration tools such as video and text chat, built into Pro Tools itself.
