Serum arrives as a new wavetable synth that delivers high-quality sound and creative visual feedback; in addition, its technical design gives it great editing depth and real-time control.
It has a built-in editor for importing audio files and single-cycle waveforms so that users can then create their own wavetables.
You can play with them through morphing, whether crossfading or spectral/harmonic morphing, using formulas to create or process waveforms, with the ability to modify or generate them via FFT.
It includes a Warp processing system that works as a real-time waveform manipulator.
One of Serum's most important features is the elimination of the noise associated with resampling; in addition, oscillator playback is based on high-precision resampling thanks to the use of SSE2 instructions in the oscillators' operation to reduce CPU usage.
Serum also includes 80 filter types from LFOtool plus a few new ones, so you can work with flangers, phasers, comb filters or dual filters as well as other distinctive ones such as the French LPF.
Turning to the effects section, there is a rack with 10 modules that can be freely reordered, and almost all of them are available as modulation destinations.
To round off the technical side, we should add that with its unison mode you can stack up to 16 voices on a single oscillator, with unison parameters built into each one.
It is available in VST, AU and AAX formats, for 32 and 64-bit.
