Shure Europe, together with EARPRO in Spain and Portugal, has just launched its new contest for amateur bands, "Shure Call for Legends". The winning band will receive Shure equipment worth 3,000 euros, will play a concert on one of the free stages of the prestigious 2014 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and will get three days of recording time at the famous KORE studio in London, with respected engineer/music producer Chris Kimsey at the controls. Kimsey will also mix the final result, creating a complete EP for the winners.

The contest is open to any band in Europe, as long as they don't have a signed recording or publishing contract.

Here's how the contest works: between October 7 and December 27, 2013, participants have to submit one of their songs through the contest website (www.shure-call-for-legends.eu) along with a short video bio.

The winners will be chosen as follows:

The band/artist must get at least 300 plays of their song on Soundcloud.com

  • Shure Europe Launches the "Shure Call for Legends" Contest for Amateur Bands After this first round, Shure will pre-select 20 bands/artists when the registration period closes (12-27-2013). The 20 pre-selected bands will be asked to submit a second song.
  • Finally, a professional jury (Chris Kimsey, producer/engineer for the Rolling Stones, Peter Frampton, Duran Duran and Ash; Mathieu Jaton, CEO of the Montreux Jazz Festival Foundation; and Antonie Erroll, Head of A&R (Artists and Repertoire) for Universal Music Group in the Netherlands) will decide on the three finalist bands. Of these, one will be crowned the winner and the other two will each receive Shure equipment worth 1,000 euros.

During the launch event for the Shure Call for Legends contest, Chris Kimsey commented: "The music industry can only survive by nurturing new talent, which is one of the reasons I'm excited to hear the entries in this contest. We're especially looking for innovative bands that are creative and bring something original to the table."

Mathieu Jaton added: "For almost half a century, the Montreux Jazz Festival has been a platform for artists to express themselves, whether new talent or established artists, from jazz to rock and every style in between. We're truly very proud to be part of this fantastic contest, which will encourage the emergence of a new wave of creative musicians."
