A few years ago, Steinberg founded an R&D center in London with a new development team whose goal was to build next-generation professional notation software for composers, arrangers, recording professionals and educators. It is now offering a first overview of the powerful features of the new advanced music notation system, Dorico.
Combining performance and simplicity, Dorico is the key to entering a new world of musical creativity. The compact, simple single-window user interface houses high-performance tools and versatile layout options clearly geared toward a fast workflow.
Dorico offers the most flexible note input and editing features in the field of notation software, including the ability to work entirely in open meter or to freely re-bar existing music while maintaining clear, unambiguous rhythmic notation. Only Dorico lets composers experiment freely with musical ideas. For example, you can insert music within an existing passage, change the durations of existing notes, or let the program automatically correct the notes that follow after each step. In addition, the application offers unique project management features, allowing users to work with an unlimited number of staves and movements, sections or pieces within the same project. It makes it easy to create multiple score layouts with independent page sizes, as well as different staff and system sizes, all in professional pre-press quality.
Dorico's graphic rendering is a continuation of the ancient art of music engraving and takes even the smallest details into account. Considering every subtlety and offering extensive graphic editing features, Dorico meets the aesthetic requirements of the most demanding engravers and publishers.
Thanks to its multi-threaded architecture, the software runs smoothly and is highly responsive even on larger projects. Dorico is built on Steinberg's award-winning audio engine and includes numerous sophisticated VST instruments and effects, among them HALion Sonic SE and the complete HALion Symphonic Orchestra library.
Daniel Spreadbury, Product Marketing Manager at Steinberg, commented: “After working on Dorico for more than three years, we are honored to finally announce its name and upcoming availability. Everyone on the Dorico team is committed to creating the best, most beautiful and most useful tool for working with music notation, and we will continue working hard over the coming months to refine the application before the first version is available for everyone to try. We are only at the beginning of the journey, and we look forward to working with our user community to keep shaping Dorico into the ultimate tool for composing, arranging and publishing music.”
“We are thrilled that such a widely respected development team has become part of the Steinberg family. By combining our expertise, we are in a position to offer our customers an even broader range of solutions,” said Frank Simmerlein, Marketing Director at Steinberg.
