Antelope Audio is launching a powerful update to the Orion Studio 2017 interface that takes users to the extreme of listening fidelity, delivering up to 124 dB of dynamic range. Antelope is a company of renowned prestige in interface manufacturing, with advanced control software and real-time FX technology. Here comes the update to the acclaimed Orion Studio: the conversion process taken to the next level.
In addition to a sleek new charcoal-gray front panel finish, the Orion Studio 2017 features a new system of analog-to-digital converters that allow it to reach an unmatched 124-decibel dynamic range, along with Antelope's trademark extremely low latency performance.
The updated interface continues in the vein of its predecessor with extensive connectivity, including 12 high-quality microphone preamps and 16 analog outputs.
New Updates
Its 124 dB of dynamic range means it can capture every sonic nuance of a recording with extreme fidelity. The combination of these new innovations with Antelope's legendary 64-bit jitter management technology, Acoustically Focused Clocking (AFC), suggests that the Orion Studio 2017 is poised to deliver industry-leading fidelity in almost any recording application.
Orion Studio packs Thunderbolt™ and USB connectivity, 12 mic preamps and the famous clocking technology into just 1U
“Sound quality has been our main focus in all our designs, and we're thrilled to release this major update to our popular Orion Studio,” says Igor Levin, CEO of Antelope Audio. “With these updates, customers can reach a higher degree of real-time audio quality while we work on other new innovations such as Session Presets and intuitive routing capabilities.”
Flexible, Versatile Connectivity
In addition to its far-reaching dynamic sound, the new Orion Studio 2017 offers extensive connectivity options, making it suitable for almost any recording task. The 12 built-in preamps easily accommodate complex multi-mic setups, while its 16 analog outputs offer new capabilities. The dual monitor output allows better control of monitors, while also making it easy to switch between different pairs.
Through its Thunderbolt™ and USB ports, Orion Studio can work with any DAW on the market
ADAT and S/PDIF digital connections provide additional IN/OUT channels via Thunderbolt or USB. The built-in talkback, four instrument DIs, two reamp outputs, two headphone outputs and word clock in and out ensure that the Orion Studio 2017 can integrate seamlessly into any studio or live recording ecosystem.
Hardware-Based Effects Processing
As Antelope continues to push the industry with its hardware-based real-time effects offerings, the release of the Orion Studio 2017 coincides with the addition of several new compressors to its growing FPGA FX library. It also allows the simultaneous use of up to 32 compressors without sacrificing the 40 EQ instances it offers at the same time. Perfect for tracking or mixing, these ultra-realistic real-time FX run inside the interface itself and don't load the DAW system, greatly expanding the sonic palette of any laptop or desktop computer.

The hardware can be controlled through a desktop application for Mac or PC. Antelope's session preset and routing software gives users complete control over signal flow, enabling powerful FX chains, reliable monitor mixes and easy integration of external hardware. The new Matrix View offers drag-and-drop operation. The new Session Presets feature allows instant recall settings at any time, speeding up sessions and enabling sharing across multiple studio rooms or facilities.
The company continues to expand its offering with additional downloads. It currently has a library of more than 30 unique effects, each one carefully modeled on the most coveted pieces of studio gear in recording history.
Enjoy the authentic sound of classic studio gear with Orion Studio's Vintage FX
It is powered by a real-time FPGA engine. Orion Studio comes with a complete but continually expanding list of Antelope Vintage FX models. With its 5 new compressor models, you can now open up to 32 at once, all without losing any of the 40 EQ instances. This is a considerable advantage over DSP technology.
All products in the Antelope Audio FX range can be used for real-time tracking and monitoring, in addition to being straightforwardly aimed at mix work in the DAW. Antelope Audio's custom FPGA makes Orion Studio the No. 1 audio interface for professional guitarists, as it is the perfect platform for our built-in simulations, both classic and contemporary, of guitar amps and cabinets.
Developed in collaboration with Overloud, these models reach a new level of accuracy and sonic realism that lets artists experiment with numerous speaker configurations, mic placements and EQ parameters. The innovative RealModel technology vividly reconstructs the authentic sound and behavior of classic analog gear. Playing and recording guitars has never felt so real!
