Musicians and producers are sharing their experiences using the S1 Pro portable system at different moments around the Mexican capital. From veteran musician and producer Iñaki and up-and-coming Ingrid Löw to the globetrotting duo Mariella Venero, more and more artists are taking advantage of the versatility of the Bose Professional S1 Pro speaker system to make their music and vocals heard with power and clarity on the stages, bars, cafés, recording studios and streets of Mexico City.
The innovative multi-position S1 Pro speaker system is an all-in-one rig for a wide variety of professional applications, working as a main PA speaker, floor monitor, personal amp and music playback system.
With 32 years of experience on the Mexican rock scene, Iñaki is a well-known musician who splits his professional life between the stage, as keyboardist for the bands Fobia, Moderatto and Gran Sur, and studio work as a music producer and audio post-production engineer for film companies. The relationship between Iñaki and the S1 Pro is a clear example of the system's versatility, as he uses it in a variety of ways depending on the gig or project of the day.
During concerts with Fobia, a rock band with 30 years of touring and massive shows behind it, Iñaki uses the S1 Pro as monitors for his keyboard rig. On a big stage they go down as floor wedges, and in a small venue they're mounted at keyboard height, studio-style. The signal leaves his mixer, goes through the house console and returns to the S1 Pro. “Thanks to the S1 Pro, I know I'm hearing the full frequency range and the low end of the piano. I really like them because they let me take out my in-ear monitors and hear the mix of my keyboards while I enjoy the crowd's response and singing,” says Iñaki.
With Gran Sur, a new rock band with Latin sounds, some shows are more intimate, usually in bars or cafés, so a pair of S1 Pro units perform great as main speakers. “We use the S1 Pro for vocals and instruments, along with small amps. For those gigs we don't need technical support, and the setup is very simple. Tools like these make it easy for us to play live shows and have Gran Sur sound just like the band really is, just like the record.”
After his experiences with the S1 Pro, both on stage and in rehearsals, Iñaki decided to try them as studio monitors. “They sound great, they're ideal for recording guitar and bass or for enjoying the finished mix,” says Iñaki, as he plays us a preview of songs from Gran Sur's new album, which is being produced at his recording studio in the south of Mexico City.
The Energy to Turn a Street into a Stage
Mariella and Alcides, the young Venezuelan members of the duo Mariella Venero, blend world music rhythms with traditional Venezuelan instruments to create a musical concept that brings the warmth of home to any stage they play. Restless by nature, they often perform in a wide range of settings, from cultural festivals to small bars and cafés.
But their energy is so big that they often decide to grab their instruments, microphones and the S1 Pro speaker and play in the public squares of Mexico City. Thanks to its built-in battery, the S1 Pro can run for several hours, giving them more freedom of movement, whether for a spontaneous performance on one of the city's major avenues or a rehearsal in the most unexpected spot.
“On tour, the S1 Pro travels with us as carry-on luggage on the plane... It gives us great freedom of movement, and we love that it runs on battery!” explains Mariella, the duo's songwriter and singer.
The Ideal Partner for a Solo Artist
For her part, young Mexican songwriter and singer Ingrid Löw is an experienced user of the S1 Pro system, having used it since its launch. Ingrid divides her time between preparing her first EP, titled “Moonlight,” rehearsing at home and playing small cafés, restaurants and rooftop terraces in Mexico City's trendiest neighborhoods. As a solo performer, she values the S1 Pro's compact, lightweight design and its connectivity options: she uses the two XLR inputs for her microphone and guitar, and the Bluetooth aux input to wirelessly connect her smartphone, from which she plays the backing tracks that complement her performance.
Thanks to her musical style, a mix of folk, blues and soul, Ingrid is in high demand at social events such as weddings, held in banquet halls or gardens near Mexico City, where she brings the S1 Pro to use as a main speaker or as a floor monitor when connected to a larger system. “The piece of gear I use most is the Bose S1 Pro. I find it very comfortable and practical for rehearsing and for playing smaller spaces or for monitoring,” says Ingrid Löw.
More About the S1 Pro
The S1 Pro was created from the technology developed for Bose Professional's successful L1 and F1 portable speaker systems. Weighing 6.8kg and measuring 330 x 241 x 286mm, the S1 Pro is a compact, lightweight, portable and rugged unit that is easy to handle thanks to its comfortable carrying handle.
Thanks to Bose technology, it can be placed in up to four different positions to suit a wide range of applications: tilted back, standing upright, mounted on a speaker stand or lying flat (as a floor monitor). It integrates sensors that detect changes in position and trigger the automatic EQ function (Auto EQ), which recalibrates the internal settings for each position and use, ensuring the best performance and optimal sound for every application.
