The SG, with its double cutaway, would later become especially identified with AC/DC guitarist Angus Young, among others. Over the course of that decade, the SG became the favorite of many rock, blues and fusion guitarists.
By the time the Les Paul Standard returned to reclaim its status as queen of the guitar world, the SG had already gained a following and established itself as an essential tool for cutting-edge rockers, roaring at full volume in the hands of Pete Townshend, Robby Krieger, Eric Clapton and many more.
As a peerless sister to the SG Standard, the SG Special has always been a favorite of the most daring rockers.
Since the SG family was introduced to the market in 1961, the Special has shared many of the Standard's unique design and construction features – including its lightweight solid mahogany body, its celebrated asymmetrical double cutaway, and its "faster" neck profile
Unlike the '60s SGs, which featured single-coil pickups, the new SG Special incorporates two somewhat more aggressive humbuckers. Stable tuning thanks to the legendary Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar.
