Pioneer DJ RM Series: Professional Studio Monitoring

Pioneer DJ draws on its legacy in speaker design to launch the RM series of coaxial active monitors for the professional studio. The RM-05 and RM-07 speakers are designed with professional audio technology, offering high SPL and a neutral sound with clear frequency separation, making them the ideal companion for high-resolution studio monitoring at close range.

The RM series uses Pioneer's TAD professional-audio coaxial driver to ensure the audio from the tweeter and the woofer emanates from the same point, guaranteeing more accurate sound. The Aramid-fiber woofers and a front-loaded bass reflex system with slotted ducts ensure clean bass, while the aluminum-dome tweeter has been optimized to deliver more brilliance in the high frequencies, up to 50 kHz.

The rigid aluminum domes are designed for excellent sound, with rounded finishes to eliminate resonance and a dedicated acoustic tube to reduce standing waves and guarantee quality in the low and mid bands. The speakers also feature a three-band equalizer and multiple inputs, giving producers maximum flexibility and simplicity in any environment.

The RM-05 and RM-07 professional studio monitors will be available starting in May at an MSRP of €549 (RM-05) and €729 (RM-07) each, VAT included.

1. HD-Coaxial Unit for exact source control. The RM series takes its HD coaxial driver from Pioneer's TAD, placing the woofer and the tweeter on the same axis to guarantee a more truthful response across the frequencies. The development of a new waveguide minimizes interference between the drivers to produce a true, neutral sound with excellent isolation, perfect for near-field monitoring in a professional studio.

2. 50 kHz Tweeter for more accurate high frequencies. The 1.5-inch rigid aluminum-dome tweeters have been designed using Pioneer's unique HSDOM technology for added frequency response. The shape and materials of the diaphragm are optimized to deliver accurate, bright high-frequency sound.

3. Front-Ported Bass Reflex System with slots for smooth bass. The RM-05 and RM-07's Aramid-fiber woofers deliver a more robust bass response. They add a front “Bass Reflex” design and innovative bass duct slots that reduce air friction, even when the speakers are placed right against the wall.

4. Rigid Aluminum Cabinets with rounded finishes for supreme clarity. The RM series enclosures are die-cast aluminum for maximum rigidity, reducing resonance at all volumes. The curved surfaces of the cabinets optimize rigidity and reduce external diffraction, while giving the speakers an elegant design that will look good in the studio.

5. The AFAST Acoustic Tube Reduces Standing Waves in the low-mid frequencies. Pioneer's patented AFAST technology drastically reduces the standing waves that can produce a muddy response in the low and mid ranges. An acoustic tube in the speaker absorbs standing waves, ensuring truer reproduction of low and mid frequencies.

6. Equalizer (Low/Mid/High) for added flexibility and control. A three-band equalizer (Low/Mid/High) lets producers tailor the sound or the listening of tracks on the monitor speakers “for certain scenarios.” It has four presets for each band.

7. Other features

• Class AB bi-amps designed to ensure balance across all frequencies • Toroidal power transformer (exclusive) for an excellent S/N ratio with no distortion • Clip indicator to protect the unit from input overload • Wide range of inputs (XLR and RCA) • Auto On/Off and Standby function
