This is an extremely compact pair. Bi-amplified, the Genelec 8010A lets professionals work in small studios and in mobile situations where they need to operate in very tight spaces. They stood out in 2014 for their small size, which makes them very easy to handle, with a fairly natural and reliable sound. Universal input voltage means they can be plugged into any type of power grid, which reinforces the idea of making them good companions when you're on the move. They feature a balanced XLR input, a 3-inch woofer, a 3/4-inch tweeter and two Class D power amplifiers that deliver somewhat higher sound pressure levels than you'd expect from such small units.
They also feature ISS, Intelligent Signal Sensing: the monitor goes into standby mode if there is no input signal. Genelec provides various complementary accessories for positioning the monitors in a range of possible settings. They seem designed for music studios, mobile units and portable recording rigs.
