Neumann Introduces Its New V 402 Preamp

Neumann introduces the V 402, a state-of-the-art microphone preamp with built-in headphone monitoring. It is Neumann’s first standalone preamp, following in the footsteps of the legendary V 476 B of the 1980s.

Like its siblings, the V 402 is suited to pairing with all Neumann microphones.

“All Neumann microphones, whether classic or modern, have something that characterizes them,” says Ralf Oehl, managing director of Neumann. “Finding a brand that does such justice to their sound and values is not easy. But now, with the V 402, we have managed to do it because its signal path is free, which makes it perfectly combinable!”

The V 402’s design makes it a dual-channel mic preamp, created to preserve the sonic character of the original signal. Its transformerless circuit amplifies the signal and keeps it pure.

The V 402 features a studio headphone amplifier that will not compromise monitoring during recording. Its independent volume controls make zero-latency mixing possible without harming the original signal.

Handmade in Germany

Like the rest of Neumann’s products, the V 402 is characterized by its meticulous attention to detail. Its high-impedance DI input can capture the best of the sound of guitars and basses, among other instruments, without losing a single trait. Its switchable high-pass filter rules out noise and rumble without harming the signal. A 20 dB pad lets the V 402 be used with high-level sources of up to 28 dBu without distortion.

* The V 402 comes in a 2U 19" rack (with dimensions of 89 mm x 483 mm x 242 mm). It will go on sale in July 2020 at an introductory price of 2,749.00 euros.
