Blue West, one of the most popular studios in Los Angeles, run by producer and musician Bill Jabr and engineer James Kang, has just invested in an API 2448 recording console.
The goal was none other than to continue its commitment to its clientele: Andre 3000, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kiko Cibrian, Wale, Ne-Yo, Pi'erre Bourne and the late Juice WRLD are some of its most notable clients.
The studio was looking for a mid-size console to install in its control room. The main requirement was that it combine analog and modern workflows. "Our API consoles give us a solidity we wouldn't trade for anything in the world," says Jabr, highlighting the 2448's tracking capabilities, as well as its monitoring options and ease of use. "That, plus convenient direct outputs and a set of small fader inputs for adding more tracks to the mix, gives us tracking and mixing options that only the biggest consoles offer."
"There's no better sound than API punch for guitars and drums. When we think of API, we think of Prince, Radiohead and other legendary artists who trusted it and broke the sound barrier with a very distinctive legacy"
Jabr opened his first facility with Kang in 2009, the Blue South production room in Atlanta. In 2014, they made the big leap to Los Angeles.
"We put everything we had into the best room we could afford. Six years later, our Atlanta studios have become one of the most important in the Southeast, and in Los Angeles we've also done pretty well, with several No. 1 productions. We're delighted to be able to work with a console like the API 2448."
The new Los Angeles expansion underscores the entrepreneurial spirit of Jabr and his team. "Throughout our journey we have always tried to work by and for our artists, preserving their essence in every project. The goal of our studio is to serve as a refuge, free of distractions and with all the freedom in the world to imagine."
Without a doubt, this mantra will continue at the Los Angeles facility with the addition of the API 2448.
