Spiff Studios Earns Dolby Atmos Music Certification with MUSICAL 72 and JBL

The owners of Spiff Studios, a recording studio located in Donostia, and the specialist audio store MUSICAL 72 joined forces to research new technology tools and solutions that could improve their services.

That is how they discovered Dolby Atmos Music, an immersive mixing technology focused on music production, and decided to commit to it. "After many messages, video calls with Dolby staff in California and months of work, they proposed different monitoring solutions for the studio, and the JBL 308P MKII turned out to be the best fit in terms of frequency response and sound pressure," explains Mikel Sayar of Spiff Studio.

Dolby Atmos Music

All in all, the renovated Spiff Studios facilities now feature the latest technology in immersive monitoring for mixing in Dolby Atmos Music format, giving producers, engineers and artists the chance to explore a new dimension in mixing that makes it possible to place sounds or sound objects precisely in a 3D environment.

The final configuration was based on a 7.1.4 system made up of 11 308MKII monitors (7 of them forming the LCR line plus side/rear surround, and 4 on the ceiling), as well as an IRX115S subwoofer, all distributed in Spain and Portugal by EARPRO.

"Once the gear was installed, we had the support of Ricardo Viñas, Dolby's head in Spain, for the system calibration. After a long day of calibrating and checking the installation, they welcomed us to the family and we became one of the few Dolby Atmos Music certified studios in Spain," concludes Mikel Sayar.
