Yamaha introduces the Tour Custom Maple drum set, designed with today's working drummers in mind, who are looking for a versatile kit that is also suited to both recording and playing live. In the midst of celebrating our 50th anniversary as drum makers, Yamaha has designed this series with attractive features meant to highlight organic sound and aesthetics, combined with the durability only Yamaha can offer.
Tour Custom drum sets are built with 6-ply maple shells (2 plies of European maple flanked by 4 outer plies of American hardwood), using Yamaha's patented diagonal stepped shell-cutting technique, which forms a thin, round shell from end to end. Other features include 2.3 mm vintage-style Dynahoop inverted hoops, which help focus the sound and hold tuning longer, solid, durable hardware with single-point mount lugs on all shells to improve sustain, and Remo U.S.A. heads.
The series comes in five new satin finishes: Butterscotch Satin, Caramel Satin, Candy Apple Red Satin, Chocolate Satin and Black Licorice Satin.
The kits come as preconfigured sets (20” or 22” bass drum, two rack toms and a floor tom + tom mounting hardware), and the series also includes two additional shells to complete configurations.

In the words of Yamaha's European product manager, “this new maple drum kit was actually designed and developed to meet two needs at once: the growing demand for vintage sound and providing a (maple-based) working tool for touring. The Tour Custom perfectly combines that typical Yamaha maple sound with an aesthetic that is both classic and timeless.”
