Medusa Estudio BCN has acquired a Neve Genesys G80 analog console, configured with 40 faders, 80 inputs/outputs, 40 Neve Classic 1073 series preamps, and 88R series EQs and dynamics.
Medusa has 400 m2 of facilities, including two recording rooms of 90 and 20 m2, a 50 m2 control room, a 120 m2 chill-out area, a 6 m2 machine room, and the 50 m2 Red Studio, the personal recording and production studio of Manu Guix, who founded Medusa Estudio BCN together with Roger Rodés.
The different rooms and control rooms are interconnected, allowing a variety of recording possibilities; it's even possible to treat all the spaces as if they were one. From the main Control room, recording can be managed simultaneously in all rooms and spaces. The studio also has a CCTV system to visually connect the recording rooms with the main control room and with Red Studio.
The Genesys configuration installed at Medusa Estudio BCN has 40 mic/line input channels, 80 channels of analog summing, 8 aux buses (4 mono and 2 stereo), 8 groups, 2 main outputs, 4 effects returns, 5.1 multichannel monitoring, large signal meters with both VU and dBu scales, ‘Cue Mix’, talkback functions, motorized fader automation and Total Recall. This configuration is the largest ever installed in Spain and one of the largest in Europe.
The Genesys console communicates with a Pro Tools HDX system via 4 Avid AD/DA converter units and a DAD AX32 unit, and with the wide range of outboard gear via several Signex patch panel units.
Neve Genesys is a digitally controlled modular analog console that offers the legendary Neve sound, incorporates control functions for DAW systems such as Pro Tools, Logic, Nuendo, etc., and is available in 16, 24, 32, 40, 48 and 64-fader configurations. Starting from the basic 16-fader configuration, Genesys can later be expanded to any of the available configurations.
Neve Genesys inherits Neve's more than 40 years of technical excellence, the sound of its legendary preamps and the company's analog circuit design. It also incorporates the same preamp circuitry as the “1073 Classic” unit. As optional configuration elements, Genesys offers the 1084 Classic EQ and the EQ and dynamics from the Neve 88R console, both configurable in eight-channel modules, and A/D D/A converters via MADI, AES and FireWire.
CSS Audiovisual Technology was responsible for supplying and installing the Genesys console, as well as for designing and implementing the audio wiring engineering.
