After releasing the ASP880 a little over a year ago, Audient presented its little brother on April 15 at Musikmesse in Frankfurt: the new ASP800 8-channel mic preamp with HMX (tube emulation) and IRON Tone Control (a transformer like the old Neves).
So how is it different from the ASP880? Well, the preamps and converters in the ASP800 are exactly the same, but the remaining 6 channels don’t have the versatility of the 880 (neither the filter nor the impedance adjustment), nor can they be used as AD converters, although the first two channels do offer that coloring option.
Its only output is ADAT, and its price is clearly more affordable: €660 + VAT (€799).
Another new product is the new iD14, a USB interface with two top-notch preamps and Burr-Brown AD and DA converters. It includes an ADAT input that lets you connect an ASP880, the new ASP800 or the older ASP008 (with a converter card) to get 10 channels of preamps.
Of course, it can also receive a digital signal from any other device with an ADAT output. It is priced at €222 + VAT (€269)
It’s a sturdy unit with good sonic quality. They are expected to be available for sale by the end of May.
