Following up on the acclaim for the iD14, Audient introduces its new iD4, a compact, bus-powered audio interface. A perfect tool for composers and producers on the move.
Aiming to maintain the quality expected of Audient, the iD4 offers a host of features, including the same mic preamp found in the legendary Audient console, pristine-sounding AD converters, a JFET D.I. input, dual headphone outputs, console-style monitor control and Audient's virtual scroll wheel, ‘ScrollControl,’ all housed in an ergonomic, compact steel and aluminum case.
“iD4 puts Audient's legendary sound within reach of producers and composers who want the best possible sound from the start,” says Tom Waterman, Audient's technical director. “Even when you only need a single mic preamp, you'll be using the same Class A mic preamp technology found in our flagship mixing console, the ASP8024 Heritage Edition, which guarantees you'll get a completely faithful reproduction of the source.”
“Besides exceptional quality for its price, another great attraction of iD4 is its ease of use,” he continues, underlining the advantages of the ‘ScrollControl’ function. “With a simple press of a button, the volume encoder becomes a virtual scroll wheel, making it possible for the user to use the iD button to manually adjust the host DAW, plug-in parameters, automation, and even to browse their iTunes library.”

The iD4 also has a JFET-type instrument input, inspired by the input stage of a classic tube amplifier, which lets users plug in their guitar, bass, keyboard or drum machine directly and start recording right away, enjoying an exceptional sound. “Having both a mic preamp and a DI input lets you capture your ideas faster.”
It features two all-new functions designed to make the recording process easier: Monitor Mix and Monitor Pan. “The Monitor Mix function lets you monitor a mix of the iD4's two inputs and the DAW playback, providing virtually zero-latency monitoring while you're recording,” Waterman explains.
“If you're recording an acoustic guitar and a vocal, the Monitor Pan function lets you pan both the mic input and the DI input from left to right, making it easy to create a balanced, customized headphone mix.” The iD4 includes a Class A/B headphone amplifier with dual outputs. Describing the quality of the components it incorporates and its all-metal construction, Waterman concludes, “It may be the smallest audio interface we've ever made, but it's been built to last.”
